Purpose: Read the excerpt from the fantasy book Dragon Rider, and write a summary of what you read. I'll be more specific on what to write about below.

JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT: You just read an excerpt from Dragon Rider. In your journal, write a 1-page summary, and answer these questions within your summary:

  • Which three characters were introduced? How were they similar, and how were they different?
  • Nettlebrand demanded for Twigleg to get on the raven's back. What would he do once he got on the raven's back?
  • The dwarf watched Twigleg leave. Nettlebrand smiled sort of an evil smile. What did Nettlebrand tell the dwarf he would do while Twigleg was away? What does this show about Nettlebrand's character?
  • In order, write down five events that take place in this short story.
