Welcome to Teachingvision.org's resources website, mostly created for grades 3-6. However, I am sure some resources I created and located on the web can be adapted to older or younger students. Hopefully you will find this website extremely useful.

I am in my sixth year of teaching fourth grade at Moton Elementary School in Brooksville, Florida. Our school is located approximately 45 minutes north of Tampa. I feel I have an extremely supportive administration and some tremendous co-workers who continually encourage.

Some of my mentors are Lucy Calkins, Melissa Forney, the team of Fountas and Pinnell, and Laura Robb. This year, I am the grades 3-5 teacher advisor at Scholastic.com, so I feel I can definitely spotlight these tremendous individuals. Several teachers have also inspired me over the course of my teaching journey, particularly Heather Renz, Beth Newingham, Laura Candler, Angela Bunyi, Tim Bedley and Brent Coley. These teachers deserve all the glory, and you may see me reference them throughout the site.

FAQ:

  • What advice do you give in designing a classroom website? Honestly, I would start with a weblog site through Edublogs.org, which has the option of adding subpages to the main page. If you are savvy with Microsoft Frontpage, that can also be helpful for you to develop a website through your district's server. It also depends on whether or not you know HTML. I code all my pages, which I have done with websites since about 2001.
  • How do you create PDF files? I use a tremendous program called Primo PDF. Download it free online and then go to any Microsoft Word document you have created. Go to the PRINT option, and look through your list of available printers. Primo PDF is on there, and you can click the option to transform your Word or Works file to a .pdf file.
  • How do you design your webpages? I go into Adobe Photoshop (any version is fine) and use the drop shadow brush to sketch whichever layout I desire. I plug in a mouse to steady my hand. Often, I sketch out my layouts first. If you ever have an idea for a layout in your mind, try to sketch it right away!
