Podcasting, iPod and mp3 Resources-

Podcasting starts with a sensational free program called Audacity. The interface of Audacity is quite simple, and you can create first-rate podcasts. When you download Audacity, do not forget to download Lame Encoder to the same folder as your Audacity file.

There are several websites out there dedicated to podcasting. Mashable provides a list of 70+ podcasting tools and resources.

Also when making a podcast, don't forget to download some music to accompany your words. Free Play Music is probably one of the most varied, quality websites for free music.

Want some ideas for podcasting? These are ideas that came to my mind.

  • National News- Presidency, Senate, House of Representatives, Governor, Issues, War in Iraq
  • Literature Circles- Talk about a book, read an excerpt of a story (perhaps make it into a vodcast for digital storytelling), talk about an author
  • Interviews- Get guests to come to your classroom and write interview questions for them.
  • Weather- Hurricanes have plagued the southeast over the past several years. Tornadoes have also struck cities in the midwest and southeast. Current weather or groundbreaking news can be important for a podcast.
  • Media- Perhaps a major figure has passed away, a fantastic movie has come out for kids, a new show on television needs recognition, or several students in the class enjoy specific types of music.
  • Pen Pals- If your class has pen pals, you can send them podcasts online for their class to hear.
  • Songs- Our class has a few math vocabulary songs- it may be important for others to hear the song on a podcast.
  • Vocabulary- Share vocabulary words on your podcasts.
  • This Time in History- You can focus on events that happened over the course of a day, week, or month in history, depending on how often you do your podcast.
  • Animals- Most kids LOVE animals. Or at least every student I have taught has majorly been into them. When students research or learn new facts about animals, encourage them to share the facts!
  • Places- Your region, your state, your city, a local attraction like a museum or state park... the possibilities go on and on in this area.
  • Field Trips- Encourage students to share what they have learned by going on field trips.
  • Sports- From how to do specific plays to well-known teams to local sports teams
